1. Who This Policy Covers
This Privacy Policy describes how Taste of the Town USA, LLC, doing business as
TapLocal ("TapLocal," "we," "us," or "our"), collects, uses, discloses, and protects
information in connection with our website and services.
This Policy applies to information we collect directly from you, from your use of
our services, and, where applicable, from publicly available sources in connection
with preparing a TapLocal Intelligence Report™.
2. Information We Collect
We collect information you provide directly, most often through our intake form when
you request an Intelligence Report. Depending on what you submit, this can include
your name, business name, business type or trade, whether you already have a Google
Business Profile, a link to your Google Business Profile or Google Maps listing (if
you provide one), your business's city and state, your email address, an optional
phone number, and anything you include in a message field.
If you provide a phone number, we use it only to send your Intelligence Report or
related updates by SMS, at your option -- not for marketing calls or texts.
If you place an order for hardware, installation, or another paid service, we may
collect additional information needed to fulfill that order, such as a mailing or
installation address.
TapLocal plans to offer a client portal in the future. Once it is available, creating
a portal account will let us collect account credentials and related account
information, and payment details for paid services will be processed directly by our
payment processor rather than stored on our own servers. As of this Policy's effective
date, the portal has not yet launched, and no portal accounts or payments currently
exist.
We also collect publicly available review information associated with your business
from third-party platforms such as Google, solely to prepare an Intelligence
Report.
We may automatically collect limited technical information, such as browser type,
device type, and general usage information, through standard website operation.
3. How We Use Information
We use the information we collect to:
- prepare and deliver your Intelligence Report;
- send your Intelligence Report or related updates by SMS, if you've provided a
phone number for that purpose;
- fulfill an order for hardware, installation, or other services;
- respond to your inquiries and provide customer support;
- operate, maintain, and secure your client portal account, once that feature is
available;
- process payment for paid services, once that feature is available;
- communicate with you about your account or our services; and
- comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Use.
4. Public Review Data and AI-Assisted Reports
To prepare an Intelligence Report, we read publicly available information about your
business on Google at the time the Report is built: public business details, star
ratings, review dates, review text, and owner replies.
AI assistance. We currently use Anthropic's commercial API (Claude)
to help write the analysis in each Report. For the Report itself, we send your
business's public details and the public review ratings, dates, text, and owner
replies, but not reviewers' names. For members' reply drafts, we also send the
reviewer's first name as it appears publicly, so a suggested reply can greet them. We
do not send private customer data, payment information, or your account details
beyond your business name and location.
Anthropic states that, by default, it does not use inputs or outputs from its
commercial products, including the API, to train its models, and that it
automatically deletes API inputs and outputs from its systems within 30 days, with
exceptions described in its own terms (for example, where needed to enforce its Usage
Policy or to comply with the law). TapLocal does not control changes Anthropic may make
to those practices. If they change in a way that materially affects how your
information is processed, we will update this Policy.
What TapLocal keeps. Separately from Anthropic: a delivered Report
contains findings and summaries and may quote short excerpts from a few public reviews
(for example, the first reviews a new customer sees on Google). Members' accounts also
show short excerpts, with the reviewer's first name, of the reviews their reply drafts
answer. We keep delivered Reports and these excerpts in your account while it is open.
We do not store the full set of reviews we fetched on our servers; our internal report
tools may keep a working copy so a Report can be checked or rebuilt.
How Reports are checked. Every Report goes through automatic checks
(that it is about the right business, that there are enough reviews to analyze, and
that it is complete). Our staff review Reports before delivery while the service is
new; after that, a Report that passes every check may be delivered automatically, and
one that does not is held for a person. Reports are informational analysis, not
guarantees or independently verified findings of fact. We do not use AI to make
decisions about anyone's eligibility for employment, credit, insurance, housing, or
other essential services.
5. How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information to third parties for
advertising purposes. We may share information with:
- Google, where necessary to read publicly available review information or to
assist with Google Business Profile setup or verification you have
authorized;
- our payment processor, to handle billing for paid services;
- service providers who perform functions on our behalf, such as hosting, email
delivery, analytics, or AI-assisted report preparation (see section 4), under obligations to protect your information; and
- a successor entity in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets,
subject to this Policy or a materially similar one.
We may also disclose information where required by law, to
protect our rights, or to prevent fraud or harm.
6. Cookies and Analytics
Section updated October 3, 2026. We use Google Analytics, a service of
Google LLC, to understand how our website and merchant portal are used and to
improve our services. Google Analytics uses cookies to collect information such as the
pages you view, how you arrived at our site, your device and browser type, and your
general location. We do not send your name, email address, phone number or business
details to Google Analytics. Google's use of this information is described at
policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
When a TapLocal card is tapped or scanned, we record which card was used and when, so
the business can see how its cards are used. We also report the tap to Google
Analytics, identified by an internal account number and a one-way code in place of the
visitor's IP address.
If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, Google Analytics is turned off:
no information about your visit is sent to it.
You can also opt out with Google's
Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
You can control cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may affect
how some parts of our website function.
7. Data Retention
We retain contact and account information for as long as reasonably necessary to
provide our services, maintain your account, and comply with legal, tax, or
accounting obligations.
We will delete or de-identify personal information upon a verified request, except
where we are required or permitted by law to retain it.
8. Data Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to
protect information from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee
absolute security.
9. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on your location, you may have the right to request access to, correction
of, or deletion of your personal information, or to object to or restrict certain
processing.
You can exercise these rights by contacting us through the
contact form or
the information in Section 14. We will respond to verified requests in accordance
with applicable law.
10. Third-Party Services
Our services may involve or link to third-party platforms, including Google and our
payment processor. Those third parties' own privacy practices govern their handling
of information, and this Policy does not apply to their services.
11. Children's Privacy
TapLocal is a business-to-business service directed at business owners and operators
and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information
from children.
12. International Users
Our services are operated from the United States. If you access our services from
outside the United States, your information may be transferred to, stored, and
processed in the United States, where privacy laws may differ from those of your
jurisdiction.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes,
we will post the revised Policy with an updated effective date.
Your continued use of our services after the effective date of a revised Policy
constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy to the extent permitted by law.
