Google Review Cards for Places of Worship

All are welcome.
Let the welcome show.

Church and place-of-worship reviews are read by people looking for a new home: newcomers to town, families, and anyone visiting for the first time. They read about the welcome, the children's programs and the people. Your members already have real experiences to share, so a church starts with a ready review base. TapLocal App℠ sets up or cleans up your Google profile, places an NFC + QR Google review card at the welcome desk, gives members a pocket invite card to hand out, and hands you a report on what visitors already say.

No gating. No incentives. No guarantees. Ever.

Exhibit A — the card, at the welcome desk
// Why places of worship are a special case

Newcomers read before they visit

The first visit starts online

Someone new to town often looks you up before walking in. Reviews about the welcome they got are what they read.

Never during the service

Google doesn't allow pressuring people to review while they're on site. The card waits at the welcome desk for anyone who wants it, now or later.

Your members are a ready review base

Members already have real experiences to share. Invite everyone the same way, over time; a sudden wave of reviews after one announcement can look like a campaign, and Google removes unusual bursts.

Clergy and staff can't review

Google treats reviews from staff and others closely tied to the congregation's leadership as a conflict of interest.

Google Posts: news that shows on your profile

Google Posts are short updates on your Google Business Profile, shown on Search and Maps. They're free, and they're part of every profile we set up or clean up: we set you up to use them and show you how.

For your business

  • Post service times as a weekly repeating post, and each special service, holiday service, vacation Bible school or community event as an Event post.
  • Newcomers looking you up see what's happening this week, right on your profile.

How it works

  • Three kinds: an Update (news), an Offer (a deal with dates) and an Event (a title with start and end dates and times).
  • Schedule a post ahead, and set it to repeat weekly or monthly, so a regular stop or special is posted once.
  • Posts older than six months are archived unless they have a date range, so dated Events and Offers stay tidy.
  • Don't type a phone number, email or social handle in a post; Google may remove it. Add the Call button instead.
  • Never post an offer that gives anything for a review. Offers are for deals open to every customer.

// Places of Worship questions

Churches & Places of Worship: questions, answered plainly

Someone asks a member, "What church do you go to?" What can they hand over?
A pocket invite card. One tap or scan opens your Google profile: directions, service times, photos and what others say. It invites, it doesn't ask for a review, so members can give it to anyone, anytime.
Can our members review us?
Yes, members and visitors can review their own experiences. Invite everyone the same way and let reviews come in over time; avoid a one-Sunday push, because Google removes unusual bursts of reviews.
Can we ask the congregation for reviews from the pulpit?
A general mention that reviews help newcomers find you is fine, if it's for everyone and nothing is offered. Don't ask people to review during the service or on the spot; Google doesn't allow pressure on site.
How should we reply to reviews?
Thank people warmly and invite them back. Never confirm someone's membership, attendance, prayer requests or anything personal in a public reply.
Can our pastor, staff or their families review us?
No. Google treats reviews from staff and people closely tied to the leadership as a conflict of interest and removes them.
We're a mosque, synagogue or temple. Does this page apply?
Yes. It covers every place of worship; the Google category is the one that names your faith or tradition.
How does verification work for a place of worship?
Standard storefront verification: Google confirms your real address, usually with a short video or a mailed postcard.
Is there anything we should avoid asking customers?
Yes: never ask for a specific star rating or wording, never offer anything in return for a review, and never ask only the customers you think are happy. The card simply makes it easy for everyone to leave an honest review.
Which Google category fits best: “Church”, “Place of worship” or another?
It depends on what most of your work is. The exact Google categories for this trade are “Church”, “Place of worship”, “Christian church”, “Non-denominational church”, “Mosque”, “Synagogue”, “Hindu temple” and “Buddhist temple”. Your primary category should be the one that describes your main service. Secondary categories some businesses add, only when they really offer that service: “Religious organization” and “Religious institution”. Choose only categories that describe what you actually do. When we set up or clean up your profile, we check each one in Google's own category picker.
