Google Business Profile Category Finder

Your primary category helps Google decide which searches your business shows up in. Type what you do to see the exact category names, the industry group each belongs to, and which TapLocal trade page covers it.

Category names come from Lobstr's public reconstruction of Google's US category list (github.com/lobstrio/google-business-categories). Google doesn't publish an official list, so always confirm a category in Google's own picker before you rely on it.

    Questions about Google categories

What is a primary category on Google?

It's the one category that best describes your business as a whole, chosen in your Google Business Profile. You can add secondary categories for other services you really offer, but the primary category matters most.

Is this Google's official category list?

No. Google doesn't publish its category list. This one is a public reconstruction of the US categories, so a name here can differ slightly from what Google shows, and a category missing here may still exist. Check in Google's own category picker before you rely on it.

What if there's no category for my business?

Pick the closest real category that describes what customers come to you for. For example, Google has no “Food truck” category, so a food truck usually picks a category for the food it serves or for mobile catering. Don't pick a category for something you don't actually offer.

Will TapLocal set my categories for me?

When we set up or clean up a Google Business Profile, choosing the right categories is part of it, and we check each one in Google's own picker. Your free Intelligence Report also looks at the categories on your profile. Request your free report.
