When should clients get the card?
When the matter is finished: the case resolved, the documents signed, the closing letter sent. Every client gets it the same way, whatever the outcome.
Can we thank reviewers with a discount or a gift?
No. Georgia's Rule 7.3(c) bars giving anything of value to someone for recommending you, and Google doesn't allow anything in return for a review.
How do we answer a negative review?
Without revealing anything about the client or the matter: Rule 1.6 applies online. ABA Formal Opinion 496 lists the options: don't respond, ask the person to call you to talk it over, or, for a client or former client, say only that professional obligations don't allow a response. Member reports include reply drafts written that way.
Can we put our Google reviews on our website?
Reviews you reuse in your own marketing become your communications, so Georgia's Rule 7.1 (no false or misleading statements about your services) applies. Check it, and the Bar's guidance, before you do.
Can each attorney have their own listing?
In many cases Google allows individual practitioners their own profile alongside the firm's. We look at how your firm works and recommend the right setup.
How does verification work for a law firm?
Like any office: Google chooses the method, often a short video or a mailed postcard to your office address. A shared or virtual office can take extra steps.
Is there anything we should avoid asking customers?
Yes: never ask for a specific star rating or wording, never offer anything in return for a review, and never ask only the customers you think are happy. The card simply makes it easy for everyone to leave an honest review.
Which Google category fits best: “Lawyer”, “Law firm” or another?
It depends on what most of your work is. The exact Google categories for this trade are “Lawyer” and “Law firm”. Your primary category should be the one that describes your main service. Secondary categories some businesses add, only when they really offer that service: “Notary public”. Choose only categories that describe what you actually do. When we set up or clean up your profile, we check each one in Google's own category picker.
